One of my bucketlist is to volunteer in elephant sanctuary not to ride or go to an elephant show. I know that Thailand is popular in their elephant tourism and they torture the elephants to entertain the tourist but it's your choice where to spend your money for elephant experience.

I picked Elephant Haven by Elephant Nature Park in Sai Yok, Kanchanaburi. Located in West Thailand. It is just a 3 drive from Bangkok. We stayed in Arnoma Grand Hotel and we rented a taxi for a whole day going to Sai Yok, i think it cost 3,000 to 3,500 baht for the taxi.

You can book your Elephant Haven Single Day - Sai Yok Kanchanaburi HERE.  The rate for adult is 2,500 baht and for the kids it's 1,250 bath and that include the lunch, round trip to Kanchanaburi Bus Station, and a guide. You book at their website and you need pay for a down payment, after your book they will email you the invoice and the remaining balance you will pay in cash (Thai Baht) at the project. Note: Please print the confirmation e-mail or save it in your phone.

Getting to Kanchanburi from Bangkok:
  • From BKK you take a public transport (mini van or bus) from BKK southern bus terminal to Kanchanaburi Province the day before your visit in Elephant Nature Park. You need to book a hotel near the Kanchanaburi bus station. And the Elephant Nature Park van will pick you up at the bus station at 8:00 AM.  Kanchanaburi bus station (Please see map)
  • Take a mini van from BKK early morning of the day you do activities. Please take the mini van before 5:30 AM. In case you take a bus, it will take longer and you need to depart 4:30 AM or earlier. It cost 120-150 baht per person in the bus.
  • Or they can arrange private taxi or mini van early morning of your activities. It cost 2,500 baht for 2 pax for private taxi, round trip.

What to Bring: Extra clothing, towel, soap, shampoo, sunscreen, bug repellent, hat, slippers and of course your camera.
